Singer Timi Dakolo has advised people who desire fame to prepare for the harsh realities that come with public attention.

The singer, in a post on his Instagram page on Monday, said individuals who crave the spotlight must be ready to withstand rumours and scandals.

“Grow a thick skin if you desire fame. You will definitely need it. You can go to bed a happy fellow and wake up with news of you in some mess. And because you are famous, the odds are already against you. So people are always looking for who to drown,” he said.

He explained that being in the public eye automatically makes one a target.

He also said, “Being in the spotlight makes you an obvious target. Grow a thick skin because being famous is a whole lot.”

The advice came after an incident at an event where Dakolo said he cared for a little girl who would not return to her mother throughout the evening.

According to the singer, the gesture was misconstrued online, with some social media users claiming he and the child were in a relationship.

“I carried a little girl at an event; she just wouldn’t go back to her mum,. So I parented her all evening. Next thing I saw online, Timi and his love child are inseparable,” Dakolo wrote.
