Kano Assembly raises alarm over Diphtheria outbreak
The Kano State House of Assembly has received an emergency motion over an outbreak of diphtheria in parts of Rano Local Government Area, with lawmakers raising concerns over the reported deaths of more than 50 children.
The member representing Rano Local Government, Ibrahim Malami, who raised the matter, said the affected areas include Rurum A, Rurum B and Sabuwar Kaura.
He said the disease, which was previously more prevalent among children, is now also affecting adults, heightening concern among residents.
Malami called on the Kano State Government to urgently intervene by providing free medication and other necessary medical supplies to contain the spread of the disease.
