Adeleke Approves N500m Relief Fund for Osun Election Violence Victims

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has constituted a 10-member committee to verify victims of election-related violence and oversee the disbursement of the N500 million Election Violence Victims Relief Endowment Fund.
The committee, announced by the state government on Monday, is chaired by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, with representatives of the Nigeria Police Force and Department of State Services among its members.
Other members include Eniola Omotoso, Emmanuel Olowu, representing civil society organisations, Alhaja Balkiss Akinleye, Alhaji Moshood Suleiman of the Ministry of Information, Moses Faremi of the Ministry of Justice and Hon. Yemi Lawal.
Sola Sonibare, Executive Secretary of the Osun Investment Promotion Agency, will serve as secretary of the committee.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the committee is expected to conduct a transparent verification process to identify genuine victims and ensure that the relief fund reaches those affected by the violence.
The committee will receive and verify petitions, claims and supporting documents from victims, determine their eligibility and recommend appropriate relief in line with guidelines approved by the state government.
The government said the initiative was part of Adeleke’s commitment to supporting residents who suffered losses, injuries, displacement and other hardships as a result of election-related violence.
It urged affected persons with genuine claims to cooperate with the committee by providing accurate information and relevant evidence required for the verification process.
The government also stressed that the N500 million fund must be administered transparently and fairly and used strictly for the benefit of verified victims.
“The committee is expected to ensure that the ₦500 million relief fund is administered transparently, fairly and strictly for the benefit of verified victims,” the statement said.
