Aiyedatiwa Flags Off Construction of 2.38km Flyover in Akure

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has flagged off the construction of a 2.38-kilometre flyover along the Oyemekun–Oba Adesida Road corridor in Akure, the state capital.

Aiyedatiwa performed the flag-off on Monday, describing the project as an investment aimed at easing traffic congestion, improving safety and boosting economic activities in the city.

The governor, in a statement shared on his X handle, said the flyover would serve residents, traders, students, workers and other road users who depend on the busy corridor.

“This project is not just about concrete and steel. It is about the people,” Aiyedatiwa said.

“It is about the trader who spends valuable hours in traffic trying to move goods. It is about the student rushing to school, the worker heading home after a long day, the patient needing to get to the hospital quickly, and every resident who simply wants to move around our capital city with ease.”

According to him, the project would stretch from Adegbola Junction through Ojaoba and Omieja to St. Mathias/NNPC Filling Station in Alagbaka.

Aiyedatiwa said the development became necessary as Akure continues to expand, stressing that infrastructure must keep pace with the city’s growth.

“Akure is growing, and our infrastructure must grow with it,” he said.

The governor said the flyover would ease congestion and improve movement along one of the busiest corridors in the state capital.

He added that improved road infrastructure would also create opportunities for businesses and attract investment to the city.

“More importantly, it is an investment in the future of Akure. A city with better roads and easier movement creates more room for businesses to thrive, investments to come in and opportunities to grow for our people,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa also commended traditional rulers, residents, traders, transporters and other stakeholders for their support, assuring them that the temporary disruption caused by the construction would yield lasting benefits.

“Together, we will ensure that temporary inconveniences during construction give way to lasting benefits for generations to come,” he said.

The governor said his administration would continue to prioritise infrastructure projects designed to improve living conditions and economic activities across Ondo State.

“We are not just building a flyover. We are building a more connected, modern and economically vibrant Akure,” Aiyedatiwa said.
