Tinubu Congratulates Adeleke, Says Democracy Will Flourish in Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the state’s governorship election.
The President also confirmed that he personally spoke with Adeleke by phone to congratulate him on his re-election.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Adeleke’s victory as a reflection of the confidence placed in him by the people of Osun State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, winner of the election on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Adeleke secured victory in 19 local government areas, while his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, won 11 local government areas.
The final results showed Adeleke polling 511,067 votes against Oyebamiji’s 444,815 votes, giving the governor a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
Tinubu said, “I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him.”
The President urged Adeleke to use his second term to unite the people of the state and focus on development, stability and economic progress, irrespective of how they voted during the election.
He also praised other candidates who participated in the election, saying their involvement strengthened Nigeria’s democratic process.
According to Tinubu, the outcome of the election represents the will of the people and demonstrates that democracy will continue to thrive in Nigeria.
The President further commended INEC and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.
