Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has said no single security agency, government or institution can secure the North-West alone, calling for a coordinated regional response to the insecurity confronting the zone.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, on Wednesday, August 19, Disu stated this on Wednesday while delivering the opening address at the North-West Security Summit in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The statement reads: “In his address, the IGP stressed that no security agency, government, or institution can secure the North-West alone, calling for stronger intelligence sharing, inter-state cooperation, coordinated operations, border security, community engagement, and effective early-warning mechanisms.”
He called for stronger intelligence sharing, inter-state cooperation, coordinated security operations, improved border security, community engagement and effective early-warning mechanisms to tackle banditry, kidnapping, arms proliferation and other security threats across the region.

The IGP also stressed the importance of traditional rulers and local communities in providing credible intelligence and supporting crime prevention.
“Criminality has no ethnicity and terrorism has no religion,” Disu said, cautioning stakeholders against ethnic and religious profiling in the fight against insecurity.
He urged security agencies and other stakeholders to focus on identifying, isolating and bringing criminal networks, their sponsors, arms suppliers, informants and facilitators to justice, irrespective of their background or affiliation.
The three-day summit, hosted by the Zamfara State Government, brought together governors, traditional rulers, security chiefs, experts, development partners, civil society representatives and other stakeholders to deliberate on security challenges confronting the North-West.

Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to intelligence-led policing, technology-driven operations, rapid response, inter-agency collaboration and community partnership.
He charged participants to ensure that the summit produces practical and measurable resolutions capable of strengthening security, protecting vulnerable communities and restoring public confidence across the North-West.
