‘How Obasanjo, I recovered stolen money for Nigeria’ – Atiku

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has revealed how he and former President Olusegun Obasanjo recovered stolen funds for Nigeria.
Addressing newsmen on Wednesday, Atiku said that upon assuming office in 1999, they called everyone alleged to have stolen public funds and asked them to return everything but keep five per cent for themselves.
According to him, they inherited the government of former Head of State, General Sani Abacha, when they assumed office in 1999.
Atiku revealed that President Obasanjo came in angry, but he pacified him and told him that it was not how they should do things.
“We had records of what everyone had stolen. We called them, sat down with them, and told them to return what they had taken, while allowing them to keep five per cent.
“I chaired the committee, with Aliyu Gusau as a member. That was how we recovered money for Nigeria. Later, we established the EFCC to fight corruption,” he said.
