Fetish Priest Storms Galamsey Site With Macho Men, Destroys Equipment Over Destruction of Community River

Published

on

A fetish priest has taken drastic action against illegal miners operating in his community, storming a galamsey site alongside his allies and destroying mining equipment after accusing the operators of destroying the community’s river.

In a video capturing the dramatic scene, the priest, dressed in traditional attire, is seen approaching the site with a group of men trailing behind him.

The illegal miners, who had been actively working at the time, reportedly scattered and fled the moment they spotted him approaching, leaving their equipment and the site behind.

Some women present at the location attempted to plead with the priest, seemingly hoping to talk him out of taking any drastic action.

However, their pleas fell on deaf ears, as he pressed on with his mission, going ahead to destroy equipment believed to belong to the illegal mining operation.

The confrontation reflects the growing frustration among traditional authorities and community members across parts of Ghana, as illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, continues to pollute and degrade water bodies that many communities depend on for daily use.

Rivers affected by such activities often turn murky and unsafe, disrupting both the environment and livelihoods that rely on clean water sources.

The video has since circulated widely online, with many social media users praising the priest’s bold stance against galamsey, while others have called for stronger, more consistent action from state authorities to permanently deal with illegal mining activities across the country.

It is not yet clear whether any arrests were made or whether the matter has been reported to the police.
