Healthcare workers stationed at Pindaa, a community in the Upper East Region, have sounded an alarm over a dangerous obstacle standing between them and the patients they are meant to serve, a river with no bridge across it.
According to one of the health workers, reaching the next town to attend to residents means wading through the very river seen in the accompanying footage, often carrying equipment, bicycles, and supplies above their heads to keep them dry.
The situation, he explained, becomes especially perilous during the rainy season, when the waters rise and the crossing turns from inconvenient to genuinely risky.
In the video, community members and health personnel alike can be seen navigating the swollen river on foot, some holding their belongings aloft as they push through the current.
For workers whose job depends on timely access to patients, the daily crossing adds not just danger, but delay, potentially costing lives in emergencies that cannot wait for the water to recede.
The health worker seized the opportunity to appeal directly to the Ministry of Health and government at large to prioritise the construction of a bridge linking the two towns, describing it as a long overdue intervention that would significantly ease the burden on both health workers and residents who rely on that route.
For now, until such infrastructure materialises, crossing the river the hard way remains the only option for those determined to keep the community’s healthcare running.
