American humanitarian Alex Barbir blasts Pastor Adeboye, RCCG over alleged $265,000 donation to FG

American humanitarian Alex Barbir has criticised Pastor Enoch Adeboye and the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) over its reported $265,000 donation to the Federal Government of Nigeria, questioning why the church would fund government operations.
Taking to his Instagram page, Barbir questioned whether it was the responsibility of the church to use donations from members, including those living in poverty, to support the government.
In his words, he said:
“The RCCG pastor literally gave $265,000 as a donation to the federal government. Is that the role of the church? To fund the operations of the government?
To take tithes from the people who are frying akara on the street, living in extreme poverty, and then go give it to the government?”
Barbir argued that the money could instead have been used to support Christians affected by violence across Nigeria, claiming that hundreds of homes could have been built for displaced families.
He also questioned RCCG’s record of supporting communities affected by insecurity and asked how many villages the church had helped rebuild.
“You could have built 600 homes for the persecuted. I ask you, RCCG, how many villages have you helped rebuild in Nigeria? Zero.
The church are the ones who are supposed to be the light, the ones who are standing with the forsaken, the persecuted, the afflicted, and instead you’re taking money from them and giving it to the government. It’s shameful,” he added.
The humanitarian further criticised what he described as the church’s relationship with the Nigerian government, alleging that it has stood with government officials despite attacks on Christians.
Barbir’s comments come amid public discussions over the role of religious organisations in supporting government initiatives and vulnerable communities across Nigeria.
