A man, PlaywithTomide, has sparked discussion after recounting his experience at a billionaire’s house in Banana Island, Lagos, where he said he met a housemaid who had worked for the family since 2021.

According to Tomide, the maid was carrying two children who, he claimed, appeared unkempt when he visited the residence.

He said he subsequently asked the woman how much she earned and was surprised to learn that her monthly salary was ₦180,000.

Man confronts billionaire over maid’s pay

Recounting the encounter, Tomide said he told the woman’s employer that he considered the situation unfair, particularly given the length of time she had reportedly worked for the family.

He said, “I visited a billionaire’s house in Banana Island and saw the same housemaid who had worked there since 2021, carrying two kids who looked unkept.”

Tomide further stated that he asked about the woman’s salary before expressing his concerns to her employer.

He said, “I asked her salary ₦180K. I told her boss it was wickedness.”

Comment sparks discussion about domestic workers

The remarks have drawn attention to the conditions and remuneration of domestic workers, particularly those who spend several years working for the same household.

Concluding his account, Tomide said, “The most powerful person in a house is the housemaid.”

His comments have renewed discussion about the responsibilities of employers towards domestic staff and the importance of fair treatment and adequate pay.
