ICAN delegation seeks stronger audit collaboration in Lagos

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has called for stronger professional engagement with the Office of the Auditor-General of Lagos State as part of efforts to reinforce standards in the public sector accounting, auditing and financial management.
The call was made during a recent courtesy visit by executives of the ICAN Lagos State Public Service Chapter and Ifako-Ijaiye and District Society to the Office of the State Auditor-General.
The delegation was led by Suarau Oluwatoyin, FCA, representing the Lagos State Public Service Chapter, and Olofinsawe Phillips Alaba, FCA, representing the Ifako-Ijaiye and District Society.
The Acting State Auditor-General, Dr Olufunke Tayo-Makanjuola, who received the delegation, welcomed the engagement and said the office was committed to maintaining a productive relationship with the professional body.
The visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to discuss areas of common professional interest, particularly the role of accounting and auditing standards in promoting accountability and sound financial management within the public sector.
The ICAN representatives said the engagement was intended to deepen professional ties with the state audit office and create greater scope for collaboration on issues affecting public sector financial practice.
A major moment during the visit was the decoration of Tayo-Makanjuola by the ICAN delegation in recognition of her professional standing and affiliation with the institute.
Both sides subsequently reaffirmed the importance of sustained engagement between the accounting profession and public audit institutions, with a shared interest in improving professional standards and strengthening financial accountability in Lagos State.
