The Zamfara State Police Command says it has rendered safe a section of the Kaura Namoda–Moriki Road after a suspected landmine planted by armed bandits exploded.

The incident occurred at about 2:30pm on Monday, 17 August 2026, after a vehicle reportedly drove over one of the suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted along the road.

The police said no one was killed or injured in the explosion.

Following intelligence about the explosives, operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were immediately deployed to the scene.

According to the Command, EOD personnel confirmed that the detonated device was a locally fabricated landmine.

The team subsequently conducted a comprehensive search of the surrounding area and swept the road to ensure there were no additional explosive devices.

The police said the location was later declared safe, while affected potholes and portions of the road were filled with cement to restore normal vehicular movement.

The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP A.M. Bello, urged residents and motorists to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or objects to security agencies.

He also warned members of the public against approaching, touching or tampering with suspected explosive devices.

“Members of the public are equally advised not to touch, approach or tamper with any suspected explosive device, but to immediately alert security personnel,” the Command said.

The police assured residents that security personnel would continue to respond swiftly to emerging threats and work to protect lives and property across the State.
