I Won’t Involve Police But You Will Sweep The Entire Town — Fruit Seller Punishes Three Minors Who Were Caught Stealing Her Fruits

A woman in Juaboso is facing mounting criticism online after she filmed and publicly shared footage of two girls and a boy, all minors, sweeping the town’s streets as punishment for allegedly stealing fruits from her.

Explaining her decision, the woman said she chose not to involve the police, citing the children’s age and their family’s financial circumstances as reasons she felt formal legal action would have been excessive.

In her words, since the children were underage and not from a wealthy household, subjecting them to manual labour seemed the more fitting way to address what they had allegedly done.

In the video, the three children can be seen sweeping sections of the road under her direct supervision, alongside another adult present to oversee the exercise.

What was intended as a corrective measure, however, has since drawn far more attention for a different reason entirely.

Critics online have taken issue not with the punishment itself, but with the decision to record and post identifiable footage of minors online, arguing that regardless of the alleged offence, publicly circulating children’s faces in connection with a theft accusation carries real risks to their wellbeing, safety, and reputation going forward.

Many have called the move a serious lapse in judgment, regardless of the woman’s stated good intentions.
