Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has charged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council in the state to work for the victory of all the party’s candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Uzodimma gave the charge on Monday while inaugurating the APC Imo State Campaign Council at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre (EIICC), Owerri, the state capital.

The governor said the campaign council would serve as the platform for the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections, stressing that APC members must work together rather than pursue individual interests.

He said the party could not afford a situation where candidates worked against one another during elections.

“In our democracy, you are not a candidate unless you are sponsored by a political party,” Uzodimma said.

“To all the candidates who are sponsored, their names are not in the ballot box. What is in the ballot box is the symbol and the name of our political party, APC.”

Uzodimma further warned APC candidates against supporting other parties at the expense of the ruling party, saying loyalty to the party must be reflected in their conduct.

“So if you are an APC candidate, you must be APC both in character and in behaviour,” he said.

“You cannot be APC in the day and another party in the night. Because you have a way of finding out who you are really.”

The governor said the campaign council must ensure that votes cast for APC candidates at every polling unit translate into victories across the various elective positions.

“If you have 20 votes in your polling unit and the National Assembly candidate is not winning your polling vote, or Mr. President is not winning your polling vote, I can tell you, you have not won,” he said.

“So an APC polling unit is an APC polling unit. Therefore, all APC candidates contesting in that polling unit, the results will be the same.”

Uzodimma directed members of the campaign council to replicate the structure of the state-level council across the 27 local government areas, wards and polling units.

He said the campaign structure must have a strong grassroots presence, urging party leaders at every level to “take charge” of their respective areas.

“Our campaign council must establish an active presence at the local government, ward, and polling unit levels,” the governor said.

He added that the council’s responsibility was to deliver President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

“So this campaign council we inaugurated this afternoon must deliver all APC candidates, starting from Mr. President, to our National Assembly members, to our House of Assembly members, and when the time comes, our governorship candidates.”

Uzodimma said the council should operate as a “pyramid”, with the structure extending from the state level to the grassroots.

The governor also called for unity among APC members in Imo, saying the state could not afford political fragmentation as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
