Jigawa CP presents N25.9m to families of fallen officers

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, Tijjani Murtala, has presented cheques worth over N25.9m to 25 families of police officers who died in active service.

The ceremony was witnessed by members of the Command Management Team and other senior officers of the command.

Speaking while presenting the cheques to the families of the fallen officers on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, at a ceremony held at the Jigawa State Police Command Headquarters in Dutse, the state capital, on Monday, Murtala said a total of 25 cheques were presented to the beneficiaries, who are the next of kin of the deceased officers.

“The cheques represent benefits under the Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme of the Nigeria Police Force,” he stated.

According to the commissioner, “the cheques amounted to a cumulative sum of Twenty-Five Million, Nine Hundred and Sixty Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-Eight Naira, Seventy-Five Kobo (N25,960,848.75), only.”

Prior to the presentation, Murtala delivered a goodwill message to the beneficiaries on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police.

He conveyed the sympathy, solidarity and support of the Force leadership to the families of the fallen heroes.

Murtala acknowledged the invaluable sacrifices made by the deceased officers in the course of their service to the nation.

He said, “Although no financial compensation could replace the lives of the fallen officers or completely assuage the pain of their loss, the gesture was a demonstration of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families.”

The commissioner added that the Force remains committed to supporting families of deceased personnel within the limits of available welfare schemes.

He assured that “the sacrifices of the fallen officers would continue to be remembered and honoured by the Force.”

In his vote of thanks on behalf of the beneficiaries, Yusuf Muhd Tsoho expressed profound appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the commissioner.

Tsoho described the presentation as a significant demonstration of institutional responsibility and concern for the welfare of the families left behind.

He prayed for continued success, protection and guidance for the leadership and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

The ceremony ended with special prayers for the peaceful repose of the souls of the fallen officers and for continued strength for their families.
