2027: Ogun PDP deputy gov candidate assures opposition of inclusivity

The Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party Deputy Governorship Candidate, ’Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, has assured members of opposition parties in the state that they would not be abandoned after the PDP wins the 2027 governorship election.

Sowunmi-Kolapo, who spoke at the PDP Ijemo Zone meeting in Ward 5, Abeokuta South, according to a statement on Monday, urged residents of the state to vote massively for all the party’s candidates, from the National Assembly to the State House of Assembly, in the 2027 general elections.

She expressed confidence that the PDP would emerge victorious, saying the party was ready to provide inclusive governance and that the interests of all residents, irrespective of their political affiliations, would be protected.

Addressing party members and supporters at the meeting, which was attended by party leaders and stakeholders across the constituency, the deputy governorship candidate said opposition members should not be afraid of a PDP victory.

She said, “We want to assure our brothers and sisters in the opposition, who know the truth but are running helter-skelter to protect their ‘soup pots’, that they will still be able to eat after we have thrashed them at the polls.

“We will not allow politics to break the bond between the true sons and daughters of Ogun State. We know that when the chips are down, the strangers they are supporting now because of their pockets will abandon them, but we will never do so. So, they will come round.”

Sowunmi-Kolapo, who is the Iya Sunnah of Egbaland and Ameerah of Ogun State, said her acceptance across Egbaland and the state did not begin with her entry into partisan politics.

She maintained that the welfare of the people had always been her priority, adding that the people of Ogun State deserved leadership that would put their interests ahead of personal considerations.

The PDP chieftain urged voters to support the party’s candidates across all elective positions, saying the party was determined to translate its grassroots support into electoral victory in 2027.

Also speaking, the Deputy State Chairman of the PDP in Ogun State, Biodun Ogunremi, charged party members to intensify their door-to-door mobilisation ahead of the elections.

Ogunremi said the electorate was tired of hardship and ready for a change, urging members to take the PDP’s message to every household across the state.

He said, “The masses are tired of pain, and they are with us. In the Central, we have the Deputy Governor and Senator Iyabo Obasanjo. That is what is giving them a headache.

“Many stakeholders know that the well-being of Ogun indigenes is the priority of the PDP. That is why they are with us.”

The Director-General of the PDP Campaign Council in Ogun State, High Chief Mustapha Owolabi, described the 2027 election as a “done deal.”

Owolabi said the people of Ogun Central and the state at large were aware of the issues confronting them and would not settle for what he described as less than good governance.

The meeting witnessed a strong show of solidarity from members of the Ijemo community, with the party using the gathering to further strengthen its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
