2027: Political contests shouldn’t divide Nigerians, APC chairman warns

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has urged politicians and their supporters to prioritise national unity and brotherhood, warning that political contests should not be allowed to create divisions among Nigerians.

Yilwatda said political differences were temporary, stressing that the bonds of brotherhood and national unity should remain stronger than electoral competition.

Yilwatda, in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen on Sunday as his Eid-ul-Mawlid message to Muslims and Nigerians, urged citizens to draw lessons from the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

According to him, the virtues of compassion, tolerance, unity and peaceful coexistence demonstrated by the Prophet remained relevant to Nigeria’s current challenges.

“At this challenging moment in our national journey, these values offer us a pathway to healing, unity and renewed hope,” he said.

The APC chairman urged Nigerians to view the country’s diversity as a source of strength and resist attempts to exploit ethnic, religious or political differences.

He warned against division, intolerance and violence ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that political differences should not undermine national unity.

“No political contest should destroy the bonds of brotherhood and national unity that bind us together,” Yilwatda said.

He also urged the Muslim Ummah to use the occasion to pray for lasting peace, security and prosperity in Nigeria, as well as wisdom and courage for the nation’s leaders.

“Despite our challenges, Nigeria remains a nation of immense talent, resilience and promise,” he added.

Yilwatda prayed for Allah’s blessings on families and communities across the country and wished Muslims and all Nigerians a peaceful and spiritually rewarding Eid-ul-Mawlid.
