2027: Abia APC rules out alliance with ruling party

The All Progressives Congress in Abia State has said it has no alliance agreement with any political party in the state or at the federal level.
The state APC chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, stated this on Sunday in Umuahia during a stakeholders’ meeting to review the party’s activities.
Chukwu expressed concern over rumours allegedly being spread by some members of the party, including, according to him, “very high-ranking members” who had “engaged in one activity or the other as if they were planted to work against the party.”
He said, “They have made utterances that we feel and believe are inimical to the good and development of this party. Some of them have gone ahead in their private closets to spread rumours that our party’s governorship candidate is a placeholder.
“We have heard all those things. Some have even said that the party has gone into an alliance or is holding an alliance with the ruling party in the state, that there is already an alliance between the ruling party in the state and the APC-led Federal Government.
“If there is anybody that should know if there is an alliance, I am the state chairman. I have consulted stakeholders at the highest level, and I want to tell you and assure you that there is no such unholy alliance and there never will be.”
He further said the APC would not ally with the ruling party in the state, accusing the state government of imposing hardship on residents and failing to uphold accountability.
He said, “If we are going to go into an alliance, we will not go into an alliance with a party that is causing a lot of hardship for Abians, a party that has claimed billions of naira in the name of school renovation, a party that is carrying on its activities as if we are in a military regime, where a lecturer will be suspended for airing his views. Are we in tyranny? Are we in a military regime?
“But we have a tyrant in Abia at the head of government, and if the party must go into an alliance, it is not going to be with such a tyrant.
“The party in the state is a party that has not taken the issue of accountability seriously. A party that has continued to deceive Abians when it is making billions of naira.
“Contracts have been awarded without due process. Contracts have been over-inflated above what is being done even in a local state that is swampy. That is not a party we are going to have an alliance with.”
Chukwu said the APC would instead support a coalition capable of providing good governance for Abia residents.
“We will go into a coalition that will give Abians what they deserve, and what Abians deserve is good government. A government that will be responsible to the people. A government that will pay its pensions.
“A government that will give Abians an acceptable minimum wage. Not when a director in Abia State is earning less than N180,000. That is less than the salary of a Level Four officer in Imo State.
“Not a government that will want to deceive Abians into believing that they are working on social media, knowing what you have on the ground when compared to other neighbouring states is totally unacceptable.
“That is not a party we will want to enslave ourselves with. We will not subject ourselves to such tyranny,” he said.
Chukwu assured that the APC was strong enough to win all the elections in the state.
