The daughter of the late Apostle Emeritus Professor Ing. Kwadwo Safo, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has asked members of the Kristo Asafo Church and the public to ignore her brother’s announcement that their father’s funeral has been cancelled.
Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, recently announced that the funeral would not take place on July 30.
However, speaking in an interview on Angel Morning Show, the former Member of Parliament said her brother has no authority to cancel or postpone the funeral.
Adwoa Safo also claimed that Akofena played no significant role in planning their father’s funeral.
She said that from the time their father passed away until the 40-day commemoration, her brother did not take part in the planning, coordination or financial support for the activities.
According to her, he only attended the 40-day commemoration with an entourage.
Adwoa Safo also recalled that her brother had earlier announced plans to organise a funeral for their father. She questioned why those arrangements did not take place.
“If he could not honour his own publicly announced funeral arrangements, on what basis does he now seek to stop one that has been meticulously planned?” she queried.
She described his actions as irresponsible and said she remains committed to giving their father a befitting burial.
Adwoa Safo said she was with her father during his final moments and that before his death, he entrusted her with certain responsibilities concerning matters to be handled after his passing.
She said she considers it a duty to fulfil those wishes.
The former MP also revealed that the funeral arrangements were made in consultation with the Manhyia Palace. She said His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II personally played an important role in determining the funeral dates.
According to her, the funeral programme has received the blessing of the Palace and has gone through the necessary traditional processes.
She added that official invitations have already been sent to President John Dramani Mahama, former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Speaker of Parliament, government officials, traditional leaders and other dignitaries.
She said many of the invited guests have already confirmed their attendance.
Adwoa Safo also said the public has been informed about the funeral, while all major logistical and ceremonial preparations have been completed.
“At this stage, there is simply no basis whatsoever for anyone to suggest that the funeral will be cancelled,” she asserted.
She assured members of the Kristo Asafo Church, admirers of Apostle Kwadwo Safo and the general public that the funeral will take place as scheduled.
She urged the public to disregard any claims suggesting otherwise and continue preparing to give the late spiritual leader, industrialist, technologist and philanthropist a dignified farewell.
