Sambo Says No Party Can Match APC’s Political Structure

Sumner Sambo, Director of News and Politics at Arise News, has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the political party with the strongest organisational structure in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sambo made the observation on Monday during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he assessed the preparedness of major political parties for the forthcoming presidential election.
According to him, the ruling party currently appears better organised than its rivals, particularly in terms of its political network and the composition of its presidential campaign council.
He said the APC had demonstrated considerable strength through the people appointed to its campaign team and the structures established to support its electoral activities.
“The APC appears to have the strongest political organisation, with no other party matching its structure,” Sambo said.
He added that President Bola Tinubu appeared to have assembled a formidable team, noting that the party was well positioned organisationally as preparations for the 2027 elections gathered momentum.
“Look at the composition of their presidential campaign council. Look at the structures they put in place; they look very well organised,” he stated.
However, Sambo cautioned that having a strong political structure might not automatically translate into electoral victory, as public dissatisfaction and other challenges could affect the ruling party’s chances.
He noted that many Nigerians, particularly those in key voting regions in the North, were facing significant economic difficulties, political concerns and insecurity.
According to the journalist, the prevailing hardship and persistent security challenges could influence voters’ decisions during the 2027 elections.
He also warned that internal disagreements within the APC could further complicate the party’s efforts to retain power.
Sambo suggested that the combination of economic hardship, insecurity and internal political contradictions could pose serious challenges for the ruling party despite its organisational advantages.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) was expected to inaugurate its presidential campaign council on Tuesday.
He expressed hope that the party would use the inauguration to assemble a strong team capable of competing effectively against the APC and other political parties in the 2027 presidential election.
“The NDC is going to launch its own presidential campaign council tomorrow. We are hoping that it will be able to set up a formidable presidential campaign council,” he said.
The comments come as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with attention increasingly focused on campaign structures, candidate selection, political alliances and the ability to mobilise voters across the country.
