Police arrest three suspects over alleged defilement of minors in Bauchi

Three suspects accused of defiling girls aged nine, 10 and 11 have been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said in a statement on Thursday that the cases highlighted children’s vulnerability in the state and the need for collective vigilance to protect them from people of questionable character.
He also stressed the importance of collective vigilance to protect children from abuse and ensure that perpetrators were brought to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed concern over the incidents and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting children and ensuring that those responsible faced the full wrath of the law, regardless of their status in society.
The statement said, “The first case was reported on October 12, 2026, at the Tilden Fulani Division in Toro Local Government Area by a mother who alleged that a 47-year-old man, Auwal Ibrahim, of Unguwar Sarkin Hausawa, lured her 11-year-old daughter into a narrow passage with N500 and had carnal knowledge of her.”
According to the statement, the girl was taken to General Hospital, Toro, for medical attention following the alleged abuse. It added that the suspect initially denied the allegation, while detectives visited the scene and began investigations to ensure justice.
In the second case, a woman from Gwallameji, Bauchi, reported to the E Division on October 13, 2026, that her nine-year-old daughter had allegedly been lured into the room of 35-year-old Sabitu Muhammed, who was accused of having carnal knowledge of the girl on several occasions.
Habib said the police arrested the suspect and took the victim to the police clinic in Bauchi for medical examination and support. He added that the case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The spokesperson said the third case was reported on October 13, 2026, at the B Division in GRA, Bauchi, by a 40-year-old woman from Wuntin Dada. She alleged that her 10-year-old daughter, who had been sent to buy sugar that evening, was intercepted on her way home by 22-year-old Anas Adam, a resident of the same neighbourhood, who allegedly took her to his house and defiled her.
The statement said detectives visited the scene, while the girl was taken to the police clinic for medical examination. The suspect was also arrested over his alleged involvement in the incident.
The Commissioner of Police strongly condemned the alleged acts, describing them as inhumane and barbaric and an assault on shared humanity. He assured the victims and their families that the command would conduct thorough investigations and pursue prosecution to ensure justice.
Aliyu advised parents, guardians and community leaders to monitor their children closely and immediately report any suspicious behaviour or cases of abuse to the nearest police station.
He emphasised that protecting children was a collective responsibility that must be upheld to deter perpetrators and safeguard the future of young girls.
