“The Two-Week Suspension Is To Allow Government Honour Its Commitments” — Nasarawa JUSUN Temporarily Ends One-Month Strike

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Nasarawa State chapter, has suspended its one-month industrial action for two weeks following assurances from the state government that steps would be taken to address the union’s demand for financial autonomy for the judiciary.
The suspension takes effect from Thursday and is intended to give the Nasarawa State Government time to implement the commitments reached with the union.
The decision was announced in a statement signed by the union’s Public Relations Officer, Ogbere Zechariah, on behalf of the State Executive Council after a meeting held on Thursday.
According to the union, the intervention of JUSUN National President, Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu, and assurances from the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, informed the decision to temporarily suspend the strike.
“The suspension became imperative as a result of the swift and fatherly intervention of the National President of JUSUN, Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu, and in due respect to the person and office of His Excellency Dr Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, who has given firm assurances of government’s commitment to address our demands,” the statement said.
JUSUN explained that the two-week window was granted to enable the government fulfil its obligations under the agreement reached with the union.
The union, however, stressed that the suspension should not be interpreted as an abandonment of its agitation for financial autonomy for the judiciary.
It warned that the industrial action would resume without further notice if the state government failed to meet its commitments within the agreed two-week period.
Following the suspension, JUSUN directed all judiciary workers across Nasarawa State to return immediately to their respective duty posts.
The union also urged members to remain disciplined, law-abiding and professional in the discharge of their responsibilities while awaiting the government’s implementation of the agreement.
