Lady questions mother’s past choices, says family could have been abroad if she married a wealthy man

A Nigerian lady has sparked conversations online after revealing that she questioned her mother about her past relationship choices, arguing that their lives might have been different if she had married a wealthy man.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the lady explained that she recently told her mother that marrying someone financially stable in the 1990s could have given their family a better life, possibly in the United Kingdom or the United States.
She described her mother as a beautiful woman and suggested that she could have married a wealthy man instead of making the choices she did.
The lady also compared her own work ethic with the opportunities she believes she might have enjoyed if she had grown up in a more developed country.
In her words, she said:
“I was telling my mum recently that if she was a gold digger in the 90s, when she was getting married and doing O show for free, do you know that by now we’d probably be in the UK or the US, living like chill kids?
Because I’m such a hard worker. If I was working this hard in a first-world country, I would have gone far. People who know me know that I’m very serious with my life.
My mother is pretty. We for don go far. Now, I’m asking her, why do you want me to do the same thing you did? Do you want me to suffer?”
Her remarks have drawn attention to conversations about financial security, marriage choices and whether parents’ decisions can shape the opportunities available to their children.
