LASTMA arrests two drivers after crash leaves four passengers injured in Lagos

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has arrested two drivers following a road crash involving a Toyota Highlander and a Mazda commercial bus at Otedola, inward Berger, by Jubilee Gate, Lagos State, which left four passengers with serious injuries, including multiple fractures.
A statement by the agency said the crash occurred during the morning rush hour on the main carriageway, prompting LASTMA operatives and officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS, to respond swiftly to rescue the injured passengers and manage traffic around the scene.
“The four severely injured passengers were promptly extricated from the accident scene by LASAMBUS personnel and conveyed to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at the Toll Gate for immediate medical attention,” the statement said.
LASTMA said its operatives quickly mobilised to the scene, began rescue operations and put traffic control measures in place to reduce the impact of the collision and prevent further danger to other road users.
The agency noted that the crash happened along a major transport route experiencing heavy traffic during the morning peak period. It said the prompt and coordinated response of its operatives helped prevent a possible secondary collision that could have endangered motorists, commuters and other road users.
Security personnel from the Isheri Police Division also provided support throughout the rescue and recovery operations, helping to maintain a safe environment for emergency responders and other officials at the scene.
“In furtherance of established road safety enforcement protocols, LASTMA operatives apprehended both drivers involved in the collision and handed them over to the police for comprehensive investigation and possible prosecution,” the statement noted.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, LASAMBUS personnel and security operatives from the Isheri Police Division for their swift response, professionalism and cooperation during the rescue operation.
Bakare-Oki emphasised that effective emergency response depends on prompt mobilisation, preparedness and close cooperation among relevant agencies, particularly on busy roads where delays could worsen the consequences of traffic incidents.
He also stressed the need for motorists to drive responsibly, obey traffic regulations, maintain appropriate speeds and remain focused while driving.
According to him, preventable road crashes remain a major threat to public safety, human lives and the smooth movement of people and goods across Lagos State.
LASTMA reiterated its commitment to improving emergency response, strengthening traffic monitoring and maintaining proactive enforcement to protect lives, preserve public safety and ensure orderly movement of vehicles across the state.
