Woman Allegedly Lived Inside 24-Hour Gym for Two Years to Avoid Rent

A viral story claims a woman secretly lived inside a 24-hour gym for about two years because she could not afford her rent.

The woman had reportedly signed a lease with a roommate for an apartment costing $3,000 per month.

Her roommate allegedly disappeared shortly afterwards, leaving her responsible for the full payment.

Unable to cover the rent alone, the woman reportedly began using the gym as a temporary home.

She allegedly waited until the gym became quiet at night before sleeping in rooms that staff and members rarely used.

The facility reportedly gave her access to showers, toilets, lockers and a safe indoor place to sleep.

Employees eventually discovered the alleged arrangement and contacted the authorities.

Several posts claim the woman was arrested. However, they do not identify her, the gym, the city, the police agency or the charges she allegedly faced.

The Instagram post credits “Rockland County News,” while a later report attributes the story to the Daily Mail. No accessible original police statement or detailed Daily Mail report could be found to confirm the claims.

The story should therefore be treated as an unverified online account.

The post has still sparked discussion about rising housing costs and the difficulties people face after roommates abandon shared leases.
