The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has called on residents, consumers, food industry operators and other stakeholders to participate in the 2026 Lagos State Food Safety Conference and Exhibition scheduled to hold on Tuesday, September 8, in Alausa-Ikeja.

The agency made the call in a post on the Lagos State Government’s X account, noting that the fourth edition of the conference will take place at NECA House, Alausa-Ikeja.

The one-day event is themed “From Burden to Solutions – Safe Food Everywhere” and is expected to bring together experts, industry leaders, researchers, regulators and consumers to discuss food safety challenges and develop practical solutions.

The General Manager/CEO of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, described the conference as an important platform for increasing public awareness, improving food safety practices and strengthening collaboration among regulators, industry operators, researchers and consumers.

Solebo urged Lagos residents to attend the conference, saying it would provide an opportunity to improve their knowledge of food safety and consumer rights.

He said, “access to safe food is fundamental to public health and consumer welfare,” stressing the need for consumers to actively participate in discussions on food safety.

The conference will feature a keynote address by Dr. Adeniyi Adedayo Odugbemi, Global Director of Quality and Food Safety at Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), United States.

Dr. Nurah T. Oseni, a food and cosmetics scientist, researcher and lecturer in the Department of Food Technology at Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, will also speak as a guest speaker.

The panel session will be moderated by Rasaq Oke, a Nigerian food scientist and entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience across the food, beverage, agro-allied and food tourism sectors.

Other panellists include Kikelomo Amoreoluwa, a food scientist, safety advocate and agro-processing entrepreneur; Akinyele Ogunji, Principal Research Officer at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO); and Moyosore Onalaja, a technical product innovation, quality and regulatory leader with over two decades of experience in the FMCG and food industry.

Beyond the panel discussions, the conference will feature an exhibition showcasing goods, products and services, giving participants an opportunity to explore innovations and engage with businesses and professionals in the food sector.

Solebo stressed that the event was not exclusively for food industry professionals, urging all consumers to attend because food safety directly affects the quality and safety of what they consume daily.

He said LASCOPA, as the statutory agency responsible for protecting the rights and interests of consumers in Lagos State, remained committed to ensuring that consumers were “informed, protected and empowered.”

The agency also encouraged members of the public to submit suggestions on food safety and consumer protection via [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), while consumer complaints and grievances can be sent to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).

The event will also be live-streamed on the Lagos State Government and LASCOPA social media platforms.

Solebo urged stakeholders to use the conference to move beyond identifying food safety challenges to developing and implementing practical solutions that would ensure “Safe Food Everywhere” across Lagos State.
