Greek authorities have arrested a 61-year-old Dutch man following a sexual harassment complaint from a 24-year-old woman.
The arrest took place early on Sunday in Vourkari, a community in the northern part of Salamis Island.
Salamis lies in the Saronic Gulf, west of Athens.
The Hellenic Coast Guard confirmed the man’s detention in a public statement.
Authorities are investigating him for allegedly violating the woman’s sexual dignity. The Greek criminal provision covers forms of sexual harassment.
A conviction under the provision could result in a fine or up to one year in prison.
The local coast guard is conducting the preliminary investigation under the Piraeus port authority.
Authorities have not revealed the exact circumstances behind the complaint.
It is also unclear whether the man lives on Salamis or was visiting the island.
Police have not said whether the man and the woman knew each other before the alleged incident.
The Dutchman has not been convicted. The accusation remains under investigation.
