The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission on Tuesday formally rolled out its 2026 bursary scheme for students in the mandate areas in the state.

The Commission also unveiled its online portal directing qualified students to submit their application through the new website – https: apply. Desopadecbursary.com.ng.

The DESOPADEC Executive Director of Social Services, Chief Favour Izuokumor, during the event at the Commission’s headquarters in Warri, said the initiative followed discussions between the Commission and representatives of students from oil producing ethnic nationalities.

He urged the students to understand the requirements before applying, stressing that failure to provide the required documents would affect their eligibility.

Izuokumor warned applicants against submitting multiple applications, saying any student found applying more than ones would be disqualified.

He expressed optimism that the bursary payment would begin in November, subject to completion of the verification process in October.

The executive director further disclosed that DESOPADEC would commence its annual skill empowerment to youths and women across its mandate areas before the end of the year.

He commended the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for approving the 2026 bursary programme, describing the governor as “a blessing to the state”.

In his remark, the Chairman of Confederation of Delta State Oil Producing Ethnic Nationality Students Union ( CODSOPENSU) Johnson Aweh, representing Ijaw ethnic nationality, commended DESOPADEC and Executive Director of Social Services, Chief Favour Izuokumor, for their commitment in ensuring that the 2026 bursary became a reality.

Aweh also commended the state governor for his commitment to the welfare of students in Delta State, while pleading with the Commission to consider students from polytechnic and colleges of education in the next bursary payment.
