Backlash as Governor Oborevwori Allegedly Distributes Billions to Council Chairmen, Vice, Councilors Amid Economic Hardship

By Track News Online
ASABA, DELTA STATE — Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has reportedly distributed hundreds of millions of naira to local government officials across the state’s 25 local government areas, triggering public outrage during a period of intense economic strain.
Sources reliably informed this platform that the Governor disbursed roughly ₦300 million to each of the 25 Local Government Chairmen last week, of August 2026
Also, Vice Chairmen in the 25 local governments allegedly received ₦30 million each, while Councillors were allocated approximately ₦20 million each.
While the exact operational or political justification for the payouts remains unknown, reports suggest the funds were allegedly linked to the next year elections
Speaking with a resident of Warri, Delta State identified as Mr. Ejiro hinted the cash disbursements were coming at a time when Nigerians, particularly in Delta State were grappling with severe economic hardship, escalating food inflation, and record-high prices for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.
Critics point out that the state recently received approximately ₦101 billion from the Federal Allocation Account Committee (FAAC)—the highest single share from the federal distribution pool of nearly ₦3 trillion.
Citizens and observers are calling for greater transparency regarding the allocation of state funds during this national economic crisis.
