Arokodare nets fifth Ajax goal in PSV defeat

Tolu Arokodare continued his push for a Super Eagles recall with his fifth goal of the season, but it was not enough to prevent Ajax from losing 3-1 to PSV in the Eredivisie at the Johan Cruijff Arena on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
PSV took the lead inside four minutes when Ivan Perisic’s deep cross was headed across by Ruben van Bommel for Ricardo Pepi to nod in from close range, the third successive Eredivisie meeting in which PSV have scored inside the opening 10 minutes.
Arokodare, on loan from Wolves and enjoying a strong start to his Ajax career, levelled in the 23rd minute with a low effort that bounced in off the far corner, extending his scoring run to four straight matches for the Dutch club.
PSV restored their lead with the last kick of the first half when Lutsharel Geertruida, making his debut for the club, volleyed home from a corner. Esmir Bajraktarevic then sealed the win in the second minute of second-half stoppage time with a low finish into the far corner.
Ajax goalkeeper Matej Kovar made five saves as the home side finished with 19 attempts to PSV’s 13 but could not find a way back into the game. The result leaves Ajax without a win in five Eredivisie home games and six points behind PSV, though Ajax retain a game in hand.
Arokodare last featured for Nigeria in November 2025 in a 2026 World Cup play-off against DR Congo and was left out of the squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
His current form will nonetheless strengthen his case for a recall to Eric Chelle’s squad.
