NFF Sacks Super Falcons Technical Crew After World Cup Qualification Failure

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sacked the technical crew of the Super Falcons following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The NFF Executive Committee directed all members of the coaching crew to step down with immediate effect on Monday, August 17, 2026, after the team’s disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and subsequent World Cup qualifying playoffs.
The federation announced the decision in a statement, saying the Executive Committee had asked members of the technical crew of the Super Falcons to step down immediately.
The decision followed Nigeria’s quarter-final exit from the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where the nine-time African champions suffered a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon.

The defeat ended the Falcons’ route to automatic World Cup qualification and sent them into the African playoffs, where they needed to overcome South Africa to keep their hopes alive.
However, Nigeria suffered another setback in the playoffs, losing 2-1 to Banyana Banyana, a result that ended their hopes of reaching the 2027 tournament in Brazil.
The setback is significant for Nigeria, which had been a regular participant at the FIFA Women’s World Cup and had never previously missed the tournament.
The NFF’s decision to overhaul the technical setup now follows a campaign in which the Super Falcons fell short at both the continental championship and the final qualification route to the World Cup.
