The Bauchi State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, following the arrest of three security personnel attached to the First City Monument Bank, Bauchi, who allegedly conspired to make false claims against police officers and attempted to obtain N1.2m by false pretence.

The command stated that the suspects were identified as: 30-year-old Usman Usman of Guru, Bauchi; 30-year-old Aliyu Musa of Yelwan Lebura; and 35-year-old Haruna Adamu of Rafin Tambari.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Nafiu Habib, explained via a statement issued on Wednesday, that

the incident occurred on August 9, 2026, when Usman and Musa reported at the E Division, Yelwa, alleging that police officers had impounded their Bajaj motorcycle and demanded money for its release.

He said the suspects further alleged that after returning with the money, the motorcycle could not be found, prompting them to accuse the police of stealing it and thus, went ahead  to demand N1.2m as compensation.

The statement read in part, “On 9th August, 2026 at about 2330hrs, Mr Usman Usman, 30-year-old of Guru, Bauchi, and Mr Aliyu Musa, also 30-year-old of Yelwan Lebura, both security personnel attached to First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Bauchi, reported an incident at ‘E’ Division, Yelwa.”

The PPRO explained further that an intelligence-led investigation launched after the report established that the three suspects had allegedly conspired to remove the motorcycle from the police impoundment area using a spare key.

He said the suspects allegedly took advantage of the police officers’ attention being focused on other offenders to secretly remove the motorcycle and conceal it at Adamu’s residence in Rafin Tambari.

Habib added that the trio later reported the matter to the police and deliberately made false allegations against the officers in an attempt to obstruct them from performing their duties and damage the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.

“All the suspects have been arrested, and the motorcycle has been recovered while investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of preliminary investigation,” he stated.

The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged criminal conspiracy and deliberate misinformation against police officers.

He added that the commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, integrity and accountability.
