Group recommits to fostering love, unity with Nasarawa residents

Members of the Delta People’s Forum across the 13 Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State, on Sunday, reaffirmed their commitment to fostering love, unity, understanding amongst the indigenes of Delta State, Nasarawa State and Nigerians at large.
According to a speech by the newly elected chairman of the Forum, the group aims to promote the welfare of its members; and foster mutual understanding, peaceful coexistence, unity and tolerance amongst the members and other various ethnic groups in Nasarawa State and Nigeria in general, among others.
Arewa PUNCH reports that the Forum members had earlier converged in their numbers in Lafia, the state capital, where they conducted themselves in an orderly manner throughout an electoral process which produced the new executives.
The electoral process birthed the election of 10 new executives who would pilot the affairs of the Forum for the next three years.
Declaring the winners who mainly emerged through affirmation votes, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mathias England announced the emergence of Omekenyi Edmund Ifeanyichukwu as the newly elected President; Samson Osuo as Vice President; Akpos Egwero as General Secretary; and Alex Okagbare as Financial Secretary.
Others are: Brume Fortune as Treasurer; Collins Agwam as Public Relations Officer; Tina Yusuf as Welfare Officer; Azuka Onwugbenu as Provost, among others.
“By the powers vested on me as the ELCOM chairman for the Delta People’s Forum election holding here in Lafia, Nasarawa State, I hereby declare that all the new executives were elected by members of the Forum during a peaceful and well coordinated congress,” England said.
Speaking on behalf of the new executives of the Forum, the newly elected President, Omekenyi Edmund Ifeanyichukwu assured that the new team would do everything within its powers to ensure that it meets up with the expectations of members of the Forum across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.
He assured that the Forum will work hard towards collaborating with both the Delta and Nasarawa State governments in order to address most of the challenges affecting its members, and as a way to improve their livelihoods.
“I sincerely want to thank all the Forum members who participated in the electoral process and voted for me. I am grateful to everyone of you for the confidence reposed in me to lead, and I promise to do my best to take the Delta People’s Forum to greater heights.
“Right from the beginning of this forum, I served as the pioneer Financial Secretary. Thereafter, I was uplifted to serve as General Secretary of the forum. Today, by the special grace of God, the forum has deemed it fit for me to serve in this capacity as the President.
“So, I want to thank every one of us for the unity, the love, and for the cooperation. Our doors are open. All the elected officials, we are going to work with everyone to ensure that this meeting grows more than where we are today.
“I am promising to work with everybody. I am promising to support everyone. I am promising to carry everybody along, so that together, all of us will achieve more,” he added.
On his part, the immediate-past Vice President of the Forum, Engr. Asekpa Anthony who was also the Acting President for a period of time, commended the members for conducting themselves in an orderly manner during the election which produced the new executives.
He assured that he will remain a committed member of the Forum and will always be available to support the newly elected executives in order to ensure that they succeed in their mandates.
