The President of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers , Salimon Oladiti, has faulted former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s promise to restore petrol subsidy if elected president in 2027, questioning the financial sustainability of the proposal.
Speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, Oladiti said the proposal was not logical without a clear explanation of how the government would fund the subsidy, stressing that restoring the policy could place another burden on the country’s finances.
He said the administration of President Bola Tinubu has recorded several notable achievements, particularly in infrastructure development and increased revenue allocations to state governments to enable them to undertake more development projects.

According to him, improved road infrastructure has also contributed to the growth of the oil industry and other sectors of the economy, thereby boosting economic activities across the country.
He also questioned the former Vice President’s track record in public office, alleging that he mismanaged the country’s assets in the past and failed to demonstrate sufficient accountability.
He urged Nigerians to hold their state governors accountable, stressing that the governors are among the beneficiaries of increased federal allocations and should ensure that the resources translate into meaningful development across their respective states.
