Adeleke Gives New Osun CP Five-Point Policing Demands

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, to prioritise impartial policing, rebuild public trust and strengthen security coordination in the state.

Adeleke made the demands on Monday when Zungura paid him a courtesy visit as he assumed duty as the new Commissioner of Police in Osun State.

The governor disclosed the development in a statement via his X handle, on Monday, August 24, saying his administration was prepared to support the police command “without any strings attached” but expected “fair policing” in return.

Adeleke said the meeting was particularly important as the state works to restore peace and reconciliation following the recent governorship election.

He said he welcomed Zungura’s commitment to “impartial policing, peace and stability” and outlined five priorities he wanted the new police commissioner to address.

The governor asked Zungura to rebuild public confidence in the police by ensuring that officers conduct their duties professionally, impartially and in a people-oriented manner.

He also called for stronger cooperation between the state government and the police command, based on mutual respect, the rule of law and fairness.

Adeleke further urged the new CP to reorganise the command’s internal operations and address units that had been compromised or perceived to be partisan.

The governor also requested full participation of the police command in the State Security Council meetings to improve security coordination across Osun.

His fifth request was for the release of people he described as political detainees and an end to what he called politically motivated arrests.

Adeleke said the measures were necessary to consolidate peace and restore public confidence in the state’s security architecture.

“Osun deserves peace. Osun deserves justice. Osun deserves a police command that enjoys the confidence of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation,” he said.

The governor also extended an olive branch to political and other stakeholders, urging them to work together to heal the state and rebuild public trust.

“Let us work together to heal our state, rebuild trust and give peace a permanent home in Osun,” Adeleke said.
