ASUU Commends OOU as University Rises to 2,338th Globally in 2026 Webometrics Ranking

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) chapter, has commended the management of the institution following its improved position in the July 2026 Webometrics Global Ranking, where the university placed 2,338th among more than 32,000 universities worldwide.

In a statement signed by its Chairperson, Yinusa Ganiyu, on Friday, ASUU-OOU described the latest ranking as evidence of progress recorded by the university in recent years.

The union particularly commended Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Johnson Agboola, and members of his management team for their contribution to the institution’s improved performance.

ASUU-OOU said the ranking reflected progress in areas including academic productivity, research output, digital visibility, institutional reputation and the university’s growing presence on the global academic scene.

According to the union, the development also demonstrated the impact of sustained efforts by the university’s management, academic and non-academic staff, and students to reposition the institution.

“This achievement is a significant indication of the growing visibility, academic productivity, research output, digital presence and global recognition of our great University,” the union said.

The union added that the ranking reflected the commitment of members of the university community to improving the institution over the past four years.

ASUU-OOU also recognised the contributions of academic and non-academic staff and students, saying their collective efforts had contributed to the progress recorded by the university.

It said the development demonstrated that purposeful leadership, cooperation and a shared institutional vision could produce significant results.

“The achievement has demonstrated one important fact: members of our University community are capable of providing excellent leadership and taking OOU to greater heights,” ASUU-OOU stated.

ASUU Urges OOU to Sustain Progress

Despite the improved ranking, ASUU-OOU urged the university community not to become complacent, calling for continued support for the management to consolidate and build on the gains already achieved.

The union also warned against distractions and actions capable of undermining the university’s recent progress or returning the institution to challenges it faced in the past.

ASUU-OOU stressed that the interest and continued development of Olabisi Onabanjo University should remain the priority of all stakeholders.

“The responsibility for sustaining the current gains belongs to all of us. Management, academic and non-academic staff, students, unions and all other stakeholders must continue to work together in the overall interest of the university,” the union said.

The July 2026 Webometrics ranking places OOU ahead of thousands of universities worldwide and represents another improvement in the institution’s international visibility.

ASUU-OOU said sustaining the momentum would require continued collaboration, commitment and collective responsibility across the university community.
