Saraki Reveals Why EFCC Targeted Him
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) pursued him for political reasons, linking his ordeal to the Senate’s refusal to confirm an acting EFCC chairman during his tenure.
Saraki explained that the Senate rejected the nominee after reviewing his qualifications and security report, which he said did not meet the required standards. Despite the legislative rejection, the official reportedly remained in office.
“We had the acting chairman of EFCC come before us. After reviewing his qualifications and security report, we said no. But he stayed in office — defiant, totally disregarding our rejection. And some of us paid a personal cost for that. We were hunted, just because of that,” Saraki said in an interview with Vanguard.
He maintained that those who stood against the confirmation were subsequently targeted by the agency as payback for their decision.
EFCC Eyes VeryDarkMan, Deji Adeyanju
In a separate development, the EFCC is set to investigate human rights activist Deji Adeyanju and popular social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, over allegations bordering on terror financing and illegal funding.
The probe follows a petition filed by lawyer Blessing Agbomhere, who urged the commission to scrutinise how both figures raise and deploy funds for their public activities — including sponsorships, advocacy drives, media work, protests, and legal actions.
Filed on June 17, 2026, the petition called on the EFCC to determine whether the finances behind their operations originate from legitimate and traceable sources. The lawyer also flagged concerns over compliance with tax obligations and financial reporting regulations linked to their activities.
