A landlord has reportedly clashed with his tenant after the tenant refused to accept an increase in rent from GH¢2,500 to GH¢3,000, arguing that the new amount was too expensive.
According to reports, the tenant had questioned the decision to increase the rent, leading to a disagreement between the two.
The situation allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation, with the landlord reportedly demanding that the tenant leave the hostel immediately.
The landlord is also alleged to have told the tenant that he had already given the room to another person, despite claims that the tenant was not given prior notice.
In a video circulating online, the two men were seen engaged in a heated exchange, with the tenant expressing his frustration over the development. It is further alleged that the landlord later locked the tenant inside the hostel.
The incident has sparked discussions online, with many debating the rights and responsibilities of both landlords and tenants in rent-related disputes.
Under Ghana’s Rent Act, disputes between landlords and tenants can be taken to the appropriate rent authorities for resolution rather than being settled through force.
