One person has died after a mini truck overturned at TREM Bus Stop, Anthony Oke, Lagos, in the early hours of Sunday, trapping a motor boy beneath the vehicle.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed that another person was treated at the scene by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).

In a statement issued on Sunday, the agency said its Eagle Response Team from Cappa was activated at 2:06 a.m. and arrived at the accident scene 10 minutes later.

The truck, with registration number ABJ 37 AC, reportedly lost control and overturned sideways, trapping the motor boy underneath.

Preliminary investigations by the response team identified reckless driving as the immediate cause of the accident.

LASEMA said its officials used light rescue equipment to recover the body of the deceased, which was subsequently handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for further action.

Following the recovery operation, emergency responders coordinated the removal of the overturned truck and the transfer of its goods into another vehicle provided by the owner.

A private towing truck was deployed to remove the damaged vehicle from the road before it was taken to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) yard in Oshodi.

The operation also involved the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS and the Nigeria Police Force, which worked alongside LASEMA to manage the incident.

The agency confirmed that the recovery operation had been concluded and traffic restored after the affected road was cleared.

LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists, particularly truck drivers, to exercise caution and comply with road safety regulations.

He advised drivers to avoid reckless driving, observe speed limits and ensure regular vehicle maintenance to prevent avoidable accidents and loss of lives.

The agency also urged residents to report emergencies through the Lagos State toll-free numbers 767 and 112.
