‘Millions of Nigerians struggling to survive’ – Lawyer faults Shettima’s dancing on campaign trail

Prominent Kano-based human rights lawyer Abba Hikima has criticised Vice President Kashim Shettima over his dancing and celebratory displays at the All Progressives Congress, APC, campaign rallies, saying such conduct is insensitive to the hardships confronting Nigerians.
Hikima, in a post on his official Facebook page on Sunday, called on the Vice President’s handlers to advise him to stop what he described as “embarrassing public dancing and celebratory displays at campaign rallies.”
“No responsible Nigerian leader should be seen dancing and celebrating after failing to secure the lives of the very people he swore to protect,” the lawyer wrote.
He argued that the Vice President’s public displays were out of touch with the difficulties facing ordinary Nigerians, particularly amid the country’s economic and security challenges.
“As he dances, millions of Nigerians are struggling to survive amid economic hardship, rising insecurity, kidnappings and killings,” Hikima stated.
He further maintained that the prevailing situation was hardly suitable for public celebrations by political leaders without consideration for the suffering of citizens.
“This is hardly a time for our leaders to be seen indulging in public celebrations without due regard for the grim realities confronting ordinary citizens,” he added.
Hikima stressed that political leadership comes with the responsibility of understanding the mood of the nation and showing concern for the welfare and security of the people.
“Leadership requires sensitivity, empathy and an appreciation of the mood of the nation,” he wrote.
