Oyo indigene asks EFCC to probe state govt’s finances, loans

An indigene of Oyo State, Mr Akinloye Olusegun, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, seeking an investigation into the state government’s loans, bonds and budgetary expenditures from 2019 to 2026.
The petition also called for a forensic audit and verification of the ₦30 billion Bodija explosion intervention fund reportedly domiciled in an account with First Bank of Nigeria Plc.
The petition, dated October 20, 2026, was submitted through his solicitors, Umar & Alofe, to the EFCC Executive Chairman in Abuja.
In the petition, the lawyers said their client wanted the commission to examine the state’s financial transactions to determine whether public finance laws had been followed and whether public funds had been properly managed.
They said the request was made under Sections 6 and 7 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004, and Section 15(5) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
The lawyers described Akinloye as a concerned stakeholder and indigene of Oyo State who wanted the commission to use its statutory powers to examine the government’s financial activities over the period.
The petition specifically requested the investigation of government loans, bonds and budgetary spending, alongside the verification of the ₦30 billion intervention fund associated with the January 2024 Bodija explosion in Ibadan.
“The Bodija explosion resulted in deaths, injuries and property damage, making government intervention necessary, while the funds and related financial transactions require independent verification to ensure compliance with relevant laws and proper use of public resources,” the petition stated.
