Kano police, hunters recover AK-47 from suspected kidnappers, arrest bandit

The Kano State Police Command, working with local hunters, has recovered an AK-47 rifle and 18 rounds of live ammunition during a search operation in Falgore Forest, Doguwa Local Government Area.
The operation also led to the arrest of a suspected bandit, Ibrahim Rabiu, from Yardoka Village in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in connection with the kidnapping of Alhaji Kabiru Aliyu of Falgore Village.
The police disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the operation took place around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, when police officers attached to Doguwa Division and local hunters known as ‘Yan Bula’ combed the forest and surrounding areas for fleeing suspects and weapons.
The police said the arrest followed an earlier operation in which two suspected bandits were neutralised, a ransom of ₦10 million was recovered and a kidnapped victim was rescued.
“During investigations, the rescued victim reportedly identified Rabiu as one of the people who guarded him at night while he was held captive, brought him food and repeatedly beat him,” he added.
“The suspect has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation,” the police said.
They added that efforts were ongoing to arrest his alleged accomplice, who remained at large, and recover additional items linked to the crime.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the ‘Yan Bula’ hunters for supporting police operations in the Falgore Forest area and other communities.
The statement said their efforts continued to complement Operation Kukan Kura, an operation aimed at improving security in the forest axis.
