Rescuers have pulled two workers alive from a hydropower tunnel in Nepal nine days after a deadly glacier collapse.
Officials identified the survivors as Sanjay Sah and Kabir Maharjan.
Sah works as a mechanical foreman. Maharjan works as a mechanical supervisor.
The men became trapped inside a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli 3A Hydropower Station after the August 26 disaster.
The glacier collapse sent ice, rocks and mud through the Trishuli River valley.
The disaster killed more than 1,200 people and forced tens of thousands from their homes.
Officials believe at least 900 people became trapped in tunnels connected to six hydropower projects along the river.
Rescue teams reached Sah and Maharjan on Friday and transported them to a hospital in Kathmandu.
An aide to Nepal’s energy minister said Sah’s injuries were not critical.
Maharjan could not move his hands and legs when rescuers found him.
His brother, Amir Maharjan, said the family had heard about the rescue through news reports.
“I have been hearing from the news that my brother has been found. The entire family is very happy,” he said.
Search teams continue working in the area as hundreds of people remain missing.
