Police Rescue Five Kidnap Victims, Foil Terror Attack In Borno

The Nigeria Police Force has reported a series of operational successes across six states, including the foiling of a terrorist attack on a convoy in Borno State, the release of five abducted victims and the arrest of suspects linked to armed robbery, rape and the theft of government property.

In Borno State, police tactical operatives on September 3 successfully repelled suspected terrorists who attacked a convoy along the Kareto-Damasak Road with an improvised explosive device and rocket-propelled grenades.

The operatives forced the attackers to retreat into the surrounding bush before scanning and clearing the area for possible secondary explosive devices.

The convoy, which was conveying a gubernatorial aspirant, government officials and other political stakeholders, was subsequently evacuated to a secure location.

No member of the entourage was injured or killed in the attack.

The State Criminal Investigation Department in Maiduguri is investigating the incident.

In Nasarawa State, police and other security agencies secured the release of two remaining victims abducted at Zherugba Village in Obi Local Government Area.

The victims, 41-year-old Margaret Ninje and 22-year-old Ilisha Lovina, were rescued on September 3 and are receiving medical attention.

Police said another victim had earlier escaped from the abductors, while intelligence-led operations are continuing to track the perpetrators.

Similarly, three kidnap victims abducted in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State were released following sustained tactical pressure from combined security forces.

The victims were debriefed and reunited with their families, while security operatives intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing kidnappers.

In Delta State, police arrested two men, Simon Obi and Chigozie Okolie, after intercepting a vehicle allegedly loaded with aluminium roofing sheets stolen from the National Youth Service Corps camp.

The vehicle and roofing sheets were recovered as exhibits, while investigators are working to identify other persons allegedly involved in the theft.

Meanwhile, police detectives in Akwa Ibom State arrested 29-year-old Thankgod Donald Ekpe during a raid on a suspected armed robbery hideout at Ikot Akpabong Village in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

One locally made pistol and two machetes were recovered from the suspect.

In Bayelsa State, police arrested 22-year-old Prince Braveman following a distress call over an alleged rape incident at Otuoke Community in Ogbia Local Government Area.

The respective State Criminal Investigation Departments in Maiduguri, Asaba, Lafia, Enugu, Uyo and Yenagoa are handling investigations into the cases.
