Trabzonspor interim head coach Huseyin Cimsir has allayed fears over Paul Onuachu’s injury, insisting the Super Eagles striker did not suffer a serious problem during their 5-0 win over Genclerbirligi on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Onuachu was forced off in the 44th minute after suffering an injury to his chin following a physical challenge, with new signing Franculino Dju coming on as his replacement.

However, Cimsir, who took over from Fatih Terim, played down concerns over the Nigerian’s condition, suggesting that the striker could return to action soon.

“I don’t think it’s a very important thing. There is no troubled situation,” Cimsir said after in quotes relayed by HaberTS.

The injury came after Onuachu had ended a five-match goal drought across all competitions in emphatic fashion, scoring twice before his substitution as Trabzonspor returned to winning ways.

The 32-year-old opened the scoring inside the first five minutes before Mohamed Salah doubled the advantage from the penalty spot.

Onuachu then added his second in the 22nd minute, while further goals from Ernest Muci and Franculino completed the rout.

The Turkish Cup winners will now hope their leading striker recovers in time for their next league fixture against Konyaspor next weekend, as they continue their push for the title following a slow start to the season.

Onuachu will also be keen to return to action in time for Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau later this month.

He will be particularly eager to maintain his scoring form after his brace against Genclerbirligi ended his barren spell of five games across all competitoons this season.
