Alausa Commends NYSC Digital Innovations to Curb Fraud

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for deploying technology to curb fraudulent activities and improve the efficiency of its operations.
Alausa gave the commendation in Abuja when the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, paid him a courtesy visit.
The minister praised the NYSC leadership for the transformation recorded by the scheme, particularly its adoption of technology in the registration and deployment of Corps Members.
“I would like to commend you for all the transformation that you have brought to NYSC and the use of technology to ensure seamless operations and deployment of Corps Members,” Alausa said.
He recalled that the scheme’s decision to digitise its registration process initially faced resistance from some sections of the public.

The minister, however, said the digital process had significantly improved the efficiency of the scheme and was now receiving widespread commendation.
Nafiu, according to a statement by the Director, Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, told the minister that the NYSC had also strengthened the security features of Corps Members’ Call-up and Posting Letters following attempts by unscrupulous individuals to clone the documents and issue fake letters to prospective employers.
According to him, the activities had also been used to extort money from unsuspecting Corps Members.
The NYSC Director-General said the enhanced security features had made the documents more resistant to manipulation while allowing employers to easily verify their authenticity.
He further disclosed that a joint committee comprising officials of the NYSC and the Federal Ministry of Education had been constituted to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions.
Nafiu said the committee would also ensure that only qualified and eligible Nigerian graduates participate in the National Youth Service Corps scheme.
