Police recover pistol, ammunition from fleeing robbers in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol with live ammunition from suspected motorcycle snatchers along Ukpor Road, Umudim, Nnewi, in the Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state.

In a press statement released on Thursday, the spokesperson for the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives attached to the Nnewi Central Police Station carried out the recovery while on routine patrol.

Ikenga said the operatives sighted two suspected motorcycle snatchers riding on a motorcycle and immediately gave them a hot chase.

According to him, duringthe pursuit, the suspects abandoned a bag that fell from them while attempting to escape, adding that a search of the bag led to the recovery of the exhibits.

He said, “The operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to Nnewi Central Police Station, while on routine patrol in the morning of September 3, 2026, recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol and one live round of ammunition along Ukpor Road, Umudim, Nnewi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.

“The operatives had sighted two suspected motorcycle snatchers riding on a motorcycle and immediately gave them a hot chase.

“In the course of the pursuit, the suspects abandoned a bag which fell from them while attempting to escape. A search conducted on the bag led to the recovery of the exhibits.

“Efforts are currently ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.

“The Command reassures Ndi Anambra of its unwavering commitment to crime prevention and the fight against all forms of criminality in the State.”
