Police deploy 250 officers to Kano border LGAs to boost security

The Kano State Police Command has deployed no fewer than 250 police officers who have completed one month of intensive training to border Local Government Areas as part of measures to enhance security in the areas.

The state Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Bakori, disclosed this on Tuesday at the passing-out ceremony of the second batch of 250 officers who have completed combat and weapon-handling training.

“It is with immense pride and a profound sense of duty that I welcome you all to this auspicious occasion of the passing out of the second batch of 250 police officers of the ranks of Police Constable and Police Corporal, who have completed a one-month intensive Combat and Weapon Handling Training,” he said.

He said the training, conducted simultaneously at 9 PMF, Hotoro, and 52 PMF, Challawa, was in fulfilment of the strategic policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, whose leadership continues to prioritise capacity building, professionalism, and operational readiness of the Nigeria Police Force.

“In line with our operational priorities, the 250 officers graduating today will be deployed to border Local Government Areas of Kano State. This strategic deployment is designed to strengthen border security, enhance our presence in frontline communities, and improve our rapid response to distress calls,” Bakori said.

The commissioner charged the officers to justify the confidence reposed in them, noting that the security realities of our time demand a Police Force that is firm on crime and humane to the people.

He commended the officers for their resilience, discipline, and dedication throughout the period of the rigorous course.

“For one full month, you endured demanding physical drills, tactical exercises, weapon handling, and classroom instructions. You have demonstrated that you are not only combat-ready, but also intellectually and morally prepared for the responsibilities ahead,” he said.

The commissioner also urged the officers to internalise and apply all that they had learnt – be vigilant, professional, firm but fair, as well as respect the fundamental rights of every law-abiding citizen.

“Protect the vulnerable, partner with traditional and community leaders, and confront criminal elements with courage, but strictly within the confines of the law,” the commissioner added.

He restated the commitment of the command to sustain in-house refresher training to ensure that every officer is adequately equipped with the requisite skills to serve people effectively and safely.
