Gawuna’s Loyalists Visit Kano Gov, Signal Defection to APC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to lose some of its prominent members in Kano State as a political team loyal to former Deputy Governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna prepares to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development emerged after a delegation loyal to Gawuna paid a solidarity visit to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his Deputy, Murtala Sule Garo.

The visit was disclosed in a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

The delegation was led by Hon. Muhammad Badaru Umar, a close ally of Gawuna, and included the NDC Vice Chairman in Kano State, Ali Datti Yako, Mansur Isa Gawuna, Uba Tanko Mijinyawa, also known as Uba Danzainab, among others.

Other members of the delegation were Aminu Umar Faruk, Sani Jibrin, Salisu Muhammad, Musa Sani Indabo, Muhammad Kabir Bala, Hassan Abba Abdullahi and Comrade Abdurrahman Muhammad.

Speaking during the visit, Badaru said the team’s decision to meet the governor and his deputy was motivated by their interest in the development and progress of Kano State.

He said the engagement formed part of their consultations and efforts to contribute to the state’s development.

Also speaking, Yako said residents of Kano were aware of the efforts being made by Governor Yusuf to transform the state.

“Everyone knows that Governor Yusuf is working tirelessly to transform Kano State,” he said.

The delegation expressed solidarity with Yusuf and Garo and reaffirmed its interest in the continued development of Kano State.
